Professor Pramesh N. Kapoor
Professor Pramesh N. Kapoor retired as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi in 2008. He served as Head of the Department from 2001 to 2004. He got his Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1965 (with Late Prof R.C. Mehrotra) and D.Phil from the University of Sussex, England in 1968 under the late Professor J. Chatt, FRS, and Professor C. Eaborn, FRS. Professor Kapoor was Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA (1968-1969, 1970-1971,1981) and a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland (1974-1976). Professor Kapoor served as undersecretary (1976-1979) at the Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi.
He was invited as visiting Professor at the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland (1985), University of Guelph, Ontario, (1982 1983), Canada, University of Calgary, Alberta (1989), Canada, McGill University, Montreal (1999) Canada, University of Lund, Sweden (1993) , Kansas StateUniversity, Manhattan USA, (1998,2000,2003), University of Purdue, USA (2002), University of Wisconsin. Madison USA (2004) , Georgetown University Washington DC (2005), USA, Christian-Albrecht’s University, Kiel, Germany (2006, 2008), and National Tsing Hua University, Shinchu, Taiwan (2007) .University of Cape town, South Africa, ( 2007 ), Lady Davies Trust Visiting Professor, at Hebrew University, Jerusalem (2008), Gakushuin University, Tokyo, Japan ( 2008).
He has also worked as a Senior Research Chemist / Senior Visiting Fellow at Pressure Chemical Company, Pittsburgh (1969-1970), the University of Wyoming, (1997), and Iowa State University, Ames (2001). Professor Kapoor was Visiting Fellow at Australian National University, Canberra (1984, 1990, and 1994). Professor Kapoor received Fullbright Hays grant in 1981, British Council Visiting Fellowship in 1982, Royal Society of Chemistry grant in 1985 and 1995, Corday Morgan Award in 1985, 1994, 1995, and 2000 and ETH grant in 1991 to visit various Universities in UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Switzerland. He was invited speaker at the 1st Singapore –India Collaborative and Cooperative Chemistry Symposium –1 at National University of Singapore (2002). He received the S.S. Sandhu Award of the Indian Chemical Society (2001). Professor Kapoor has published more than 126 Research papers in various International and National Journals, written 7 review articles, and obtained two patents (US and British). Professor Kapoor has presented more than 35 research papers at various International meetings and conferences. Professor Kapoor has done extensive research mainly in the field of metal alkoxides, metal oxides, mixed metal oxides nanoparticles and their application as destructive absorption of toxic gases and chemical warfare agents, Synthesis polytertiary phosphines metal complexes and their applications in homogeneous catalytic process, and preparation of unusual organometallic compounds.
He is the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, and its Hony President North India section. , Member of the National academy of Sciences, Indian Science Congress Association, and Society of Sigma Xi (USA).
